34746 2002-02-07 04:40:00 hi,
i have just attempted to install the conexant modem drivers mentioned earlier on redhat 7.2. a message came up saying 'no pre built hsf modules are availible for your exact kernel'.
Can anyone explain this?
do i need to update the kernel, if so how, or maybe it would be easier to buy a new modem.
also when istalling with rpm, what does Result=0, Result=1, etc mean.
thanx.

34747 2002-02-07 05:14:00 You tried to install the binary RPM. There will be things which could change between versions of the kernel. Obviously, they did not compile one for 2.4.xx or whatever you have in RH7.2.

If you install the 'source' RPM, it will let you compile a version which is optimised for your system. I have never done a src RPM, but I assume that it will pretty well automate the process.

It won't do any harm to try it.

I have never bothered with error codes in RPM: either it works, or I can suss out from the test messages what has happened. Usually code=0 means no error. Try 'man rpm'.

34748 2002-02-07 05:40:00 I had same trouble. But you have to get the src.rpm files and install that then follow the above instructions. Make sure you remove the i586.rpm drivers first. Guest (0)
