34664 2002-02-06 12:20:00 I have a PC Direct PC with 233 MMX P11 chip and 32mb ram.
I am finding it rather slow.
Does anyone know of companys' who do upgrading.

34665 2002-02-06 12:45:00 You'll be better off looking at getting a new computer. Basically everything on there would need upgrading. Guest (0)
34666 2002-02-06 19:54:00 Well I would of thought that you could do the motherboard with processor & ram upgrade for about $800! Guest (0)
34667 2002-02-06 23:10:00 PB Technologies do quite good upgrade packs.

see www.pbtech.co.nz for details.

34668 2002-02-07 03:08:00 Graeme, you have got my PC's twin!

I was thinking of getting a new machine last year as this one was getting too slow for me, but I decided to upgrade the ram first to see if that helped. It certainly did. I added a 128mb stick (from Ascent, online) myself - it was very easy - and have now got 160mb. It made a really big difference so it was very worthwhile.

Next I did a reformat just before Xmas and reinstalled only the programs that are currently being used regularly. That has made a difference too.

Consequently I don't need a new machine for a while yet now, this one does what we want it to. If you still have pretty much the same software as two years ago, adding ram and reformatting will be enough for you as well, but you'll need to upgrade more if you are into more recent programs.
