34605 2002-02-06 09:33:00 My Win98 (not SE) book says:

Upgrade from Win95 or 3.1: typically 195mb, up to 295mb

New installation, FAT 16 file system: typically 225mb, up to 355mb

New installation, FAT 32 file system: typically 175mb, up to 255mb.

34606 2002-02-06 09:40:00 A minimum install of Win 98 will take up about 225 mb, so you should have some space left over (Forget about things like Windows themes as they're just space hoggers). Also recommend not installing it on anything smaller than a Pentium 100 with 32 mb of ram. I did manage to install it onto a 486 DX4 but it ran like a one legged dog. Good luck. Guest (0)

34608 2002-02-07 06:22:00 Come on, Bam Bam, don't be so conservative. Anything's possible if you try hard enough. I have 98se running Office 2000 on a Compaq 486DX50 with 20meg of ram (1.2 gig drive). Sometimes it seems to work faster than my real pc (PIII 550 / 370mb ram etc, etc)
Have Faith!

Ray
