2002-02-08 16:15:00 | It Appears From Reading Theses Pages And, Talking To People Nobody Cares A Tit About Stopping Viruses, It Is Almost As If There Are People Around Who Think They Have A Right To Send A Virus Affected File Off In Their E-Mail. | Guest (0) | |
2002-02-08 20:03:00 | We care about it alright, but what can we do about it? Anything we do will take considerably more time than simply deleting them. I have blocked, *.kr , *.yahoo.com and *.hotmail.com. That has got rid of a lot of them.Jack | Guest (0) | |
2002-02-08 20:13:00 | John, at this forum a lot of people DO care about stopping viruses (should that be viruii). One of the most frequently mentioned thing on this site is install a good antivirus program, keep it updated, install a good firewall, do not open attachments unless you know there from a legitimate source. Always do a virus check before opening a file you haven't opened before. Download the latest security updates for your software, etc, etc, etc. JM

2002-02-08 21:49:00 | What would you like us to do? Create a vigilante group to go out, hunt down and string up the people creating them? The kids and I rarely receive hoaxes these days as, when I do receive them, I check them out and respond to the person who sent it telling THEM how to check them out. If someone sends me an intercepted virus I email/ring them and tell them that they are infected. In my web design class I reinforce the necessity of virus checkers. etc, etc, etc...

2002-02-08 22:16:00 | John, what makes you think that nobody cares about stopping viruses (sic)? After reading through the posts on this site, continuously telling people to install virus scanners etc., one cannot get any impression that we care nothing about stopping them. PS how long does it take you to write these messages, capatalizing every word? It must take you a while, and I wish you wouldn't, cause it makes it annoying to read.

An easy way to stop email viruses is to refuse to open any attachments, make people send you stuff in the actual message if it is text or send you an email first asking if it is ok to send an attachment, and what it will be called, and wait for your confirmation before sending. i do this and i have yet to recieve an email virus that actually got to my system. |
