34911 2002-02-08 10:30:00 After a series of drive boot area errors I was advised by the PC Company to try a system refresh (instructions were sent). I followed all the steps and once every thing was completed I noticed that I have reverted back to IE5 and outlook express 5. I then tried to update my system at Microsoft windows update but kept receiving error messages. I tried all their suggestions but nothing helped. I then tried to update Internet explorer, downloaded the files but they wouldn't copy across (missing or incomplete setup) - I repeated this several times without any luck.

I then found that under add/remove programs that outlook express 6 was listed. I had a bright idea that outlook express might have a repair tool so I 'removed' it - you guessed it, I now have NO outlook express (no repair function - oops).

Whilst I was on the bright idea theme I thought, never mind, I will just do a system restore. Needless to say even though I created a new restore point immediately after the system refresh, it wouldn't restore (said no restore point was available ?!!?).

Am I beyond hope? Should I just crawl back to the PC company and leave my mess to the experts?

Any suggestions appreciated - keep it reasonable low tech as you might of guessed my newbie position by now.

Cheers Jen

34913 2002-02-08 11:23:00 Thanks Dave, I visited my ISP site and they only provide links back to microsoft for IE6 . I am beginning to think that there is confusion reining in my registry over what I had and what I have now. This is an area I do know better not to apply any bright ideas to. I am too chicken to try the 'repair' function in add/remove program on the IE program in case I am left without a browser as well!

The local PC Company showroom is open on Saturdays - I think it best I pay them a visit.
