| 34832 | 2002-02-07 22:43:00 | So I've had Win XP since Tuesday afternoon and I've got annoying problems already. First: When I first startup (only happens straight after a startup) I go Start > Connect To, and the Start Menu freezes for about 2 minutes, so I go away, come back and everythings fine. It doesn't do this if I come out of standby or hibernation, only from full startup, and it only happens once. Second: (this isn't really a problem...) How do I get rid of those stupid popup notices that come up in the system tray area (they call it the Notification Area now) eg when I connect a yellow popup opens saying that I've connected and what speed etc. How do I stop them? They're beginning to annoy me. |

I went searching & found evidence of suspected bios incompatibility in some forums. Its all maybe @ the moment. Friends mobo is Asus AV7133 released March/01. Have saved interesting forum urls - If you do have Asus can post them for you. |

| 34835 | 2002-02-08 09:05:00 | 'Doc, I've got this problem with me arm.' 'What kinda problem, Mike?' 'Well, it hurts when I do this...!' 'When you do what, Mike?' 'This.' 'Well then, stop doing that.' OK, I know it's not the answer you wanted, but don't 'connect to' straight after startup and, 'Bob's your Aunty's pottery tutor', no more problems. Truth is, I know nothing about XP so this post has been a total waste of time. So, don't read this. No, just kidding... My guess is that some process is still happening behind the scenes and is not completed before your 'connect to' request has happened. I have seriously long delays during startup on Win98 for similar reasons, but the list of apps that are running in the background is also lonnng. ZoneAlarm. Matrox x3. VirusScan. Create CD. BandwidthMonitor. ASDL monitor. RNAAPP. Acrobat... there's another dozen or so all loading, not including the LAN, and drive-mapping etc. All of these things are standing on the toes of each other in a loading frenzy of truly gargantuan proportions. Sometimes I wonder why I'm ever surprised I have conflicts. In your case, I'd suggest you turn off everything and then turn them on one by one 'til you find the culprit. Another 'doozie', huh mike? Good luck. :-) |

If you're still having problems: 1) is it winXP Pro or Home? 2) is it shop installed? 3) if XP Pro do you choose what user to log in as or do you automatically log in? If it is shop installed or XP Home i would say there is some application runing on startup that probably doesn't need to. If it is XP Pro and you installed it yourself, the default setup with no applications installed should load fine so it could be a driver problem. in this case i would suggest talking to someone who knows about computers. |

It has something to do with NAV 2002 taking a LONG time to activate from startup. I can't connect until the NAV icon in the system tray has the little X removed (which happens eventually). |
