1290769 2012-07-25 09:57:00 Have installed brand new HD7750 into the below and now pc doesn't seem to be booting.
Don't think my mobo has a speaker (has never beeped),
Graphics card fan starts up and stays on
Monitor won't turn on at all - using DVI output with adaptor to VGA (I don't have a DVI cable for my monitor yet) have also tried HDMI output to TV but nothing

Onboard graphics work fine as does the NVIDIA GeForce 7300 LE

I chose the 7750 after asking advice from forums so don't think it should be either of the following but....

1. I can't seem to find anything that says if the 7750 is definitely compatible with PCIEX 1.0 16?

2. Since installing I have found out 4GB ram is recommended (was told anything over 2GB is wasted on my Pentium D 3.2Ghz processor so no benefit to upgrading ram), would this affect the ability to display even while booting?

I have installed the latest BIOS for the motherboard
I have tried disabing the on board graphics in the BIOS (by selecting "Disabled" from the memory allocation options, is that all I need to be doing?)

Thanks in advance....

1290770 2012-07-25 11:23:00 Have you got the graphics card hooked up to the power supply? Chilling_Silence (9)
1290771 2012-07-25 12:12:00 if this is the card, it says XP isnt supported (www.amd.com)

New technologies introduced with the new AMD Radeon HD 7900, HD 7800 and HD 7700 Series are incompatible with the Windows XP (released 2001) operating system, and are designed to work on current operating systems. (support.amd.com)

You may have to buy Vista or Win7

1290772 2012-07-25 20:48:00 It should at least POST, though, regardless of OS. Does it? inphinity (7274)
1290773 2012-07-25 20:56:00 Inphinity: Exactly, not sure about POST as screen doesn't even turn on, (does that mean no then?) and my mobo doesn't beep anyway.
Speedy Gonzales, yeah no problem for me to install Vista or Win7, have to move on from xp ONE day! :-(

I have read that some older mobos may not be able to supply enough power through the pcie slot alone, is that true?

1290774 2012-07-25 21:09:00 The PCI express 2.1 spec brought an increase in power output. Most boards with a PCI express 1.1 or higher slot will work fine (though may need a BIOS update). However, I suspect your board may be a PCIe 1.0 slot and it may simply not support it. Or maybe the card is faulty. Most 7750s I've seen don't have an auxiliary power connector, but you may want to double check yours doesn't. inphinity (7274)
1290775 2012-07-26 01:11:00 It seems that this card should definitely work with my old version PCIex, think this could be getting close?...

"It's a known issue with the older VIA chipsets and PCI-e rev2.0 cards. Mainboard BIOS update won't correct the problem, a VGA BIOS update will"

1290776 2012-07-26 01:32:00 Andrew123:
So you've *definitely* plugged in the additional power cable to the GPU then, yes?

I'm yet to see a 7750 that requires an auxiliary power connector, the card falls well under the 150W spec for PCIe 2.1, and I suspect even under the 75W limitation of PCIe 1.0

1290778 2012-07-26 04:06:00 MSi makes one I think, otherwise they're all powered off the pci-e slot.

Edit: Nope the MSI one is off pci-e too.
