| 1266973 | 2012-03-27 00:01:00 | I've noticed a bit of interest in android tablets around here so I thought I'd post my thoughts on the one I just bought. I saw it on Noel Leemings website for $399 and ordered it thinking it'd be a good way to try out a tablet without spending a fortune on what could probably end up as a seldom used toy. I see on pricespy now the lowest price is $489 so it seems I got a great deal (no longer listed at Noel Leemings at all). So anyway the guff: Acer A200 8GB storage, 1GB RAM, full sized USB host port, micro USB port for connecting to a PC, 12V DC in charging port, front facing 2MP camera, no rear camera, WiFi connectivity only, bluetooth, GPS, micro SD slot So far I'm liking it, especially for the price. It came with gingerbread but updated to ICS as soon as it got connected. It is responsive and nice to use. The screen isn't as nice as many and has a bad viewing angle, but is fairly pleasant and bright when viewed squarely. I tried TVNZ on demand using flash and it streams TV quite well (suck it iPad). Browser and E-mail apps work well and set up easily. It automatically synced with my phone when setup with the same google account and grabbed some apps that don't really play nice with a tablet, but that was easily rectified and it was nice to get all my apps in one easy step. Pros: Basically the same specs as most dual core android tablets but much cheaper ICS Not too much factory bloat (actually I like the acer lock ring and launcher ring) Full sized USB port Textured back has a nice grippy feel to it Cons: reset button and SD slot hidden under an awful plastic cover that is a real nuisance to remove. Screen is just ok and has terrible viewing angles No rear camera (not an issue for me) Heavy compared to other tablets ICS update seemed to make the keyboard input random characters when in use and launch random apps when touching the screen.Fixed by pushing the reset button (which was hidden) Overall I think it's a pretty good tablet for the price, not as nice as a transformer or galaxy but quite a lot cheaper as well. |
