| 1266860 | 2012-03-26 22:05:00 | I have a PSU tester that tests voltages of the 20 / 24 pin Mainboard connectors, 4, 6 and 8 pin extension connectors as well Floppy and SATA connectors, but it doesnt test the PSU under load so I'm wondering if there is some test equipment out there that can test the PSU voltages and allow you to load it up to see if any break down under load. Anyone got one, heard of one, used one, etc and is/was it any good? Or know where to get one. Please and Thanks :) Ian |

For load testing, you'll need to dissipate alot of heat, up to 1000W for the very high power PSU's That sort of thing wont be cheap, unless you DIY it. You also need to see how much ripple\noise is on the voltage lines as well , eg with an oscilloscope You'd be surprised how bad some of the cheapies are, not just PC power supplies either . |

| 1266862 | 2012-03-27 21:52:00 | Load testers are basically fan heaters, I wouldn't be surprised if test labs made them up themselves. And +1 for the oscilloscope as the best instrument. Automotive bulbs would make a handy 12V load available in several wattages, I don't know what you could use for the 5V and 3.3V rails though and things could get awfully bright @ 1000W :) |
