There are unoffical ways of getting ICS on a jailbroken galaxy and it's apparently pretty good with only a couple of minor missing features, but I saw it on AMNZ somewhere (I think) that samsung won't be releasing ICS on the galaxy S. That said there's really nothing wrong with gingerbread that I've discovered. |

2012-03-27 03:32:00 | RE: Cheap Androids, the Galaxy 5 (marketed at the i5503T here) has a very strong dev team working on Cyanogen for it. It is unbelievably better than the stock firmware and makes it pretty nice to use (bar the small screen) Lots of performance/lag upgrades as well as 3x battery life (based on my average usage) Check out http://madteam.co/ for more info on it, I ran it on my G5 until I got the SII, 3x other mates of mine also run it and love it too. Right now they are running Gingerbread 2.3.7 with CM7.2 More info on release here: www.madteam.co For a cheap phone, this upgrade makes it WELL worth while.

2012-03-27 04:18:00 | The Galaxy S can run ICS, look up "OneCosmic ICS" on Google and you'll find the XDA thread. I just sold my i9000T (The Galaxy S for Telecom XT) and got the Galaxy Nexus. Was running that since the first pre-release build and its great! Didn't know the P500 was so cheap?! They're pretty damn good phones too :D

2012-03-27 06:19:00 | My friend has a p500. It's a pretty decent phone. He had very bad experience with LG regarding a fault with the phone. The phone does lag stock, but if you put a better launcher over it, its much faster and smoother.

2012-03-27 18:17:00 | I have a Motorola Defy and imo it is the best for the price, especially considering that it is virtually waterproof and drop - shock proof. There are YouTube vids of guys taking videos with their Defys underwater, washing them in the kitchen sink, dropping them (along with an iPhone which shattered of course), dragging them, running over them. Very tough indeed, and cheap. The one I have was advertised as Telecom only but it works fine on 2degrees (a friendly PF1er told me that the Defy is not locked to a network). The Defy can be overclocked but I have no need for that. BTW, there is little difference between the Defy and Defy+ according to user reviews that I have read; the marketing says otherwise though. Whatever you get, go on http://www.gsmarena.com/ and read as many of the user reviews that you have time for. Just keep in mind there will always be some harshly negative comments for any smartphone - you have to take all comments into consideration.

2012-03-28 05:53:00 | I have the Sony Live with Walkman (Android 2.3) - sounds great, does everything I want it to, is compact and $300. Put it on the $19 2 degrees plan for 300 mb data, tracking at about 6 - 10 mb a day so far but well within headroom. Not been keen on big phones, so the smaller size works for me. | Twelvevolts (5457) | |

2012-03-28 09:46:00 | I have found the defy to be incredibly slow until it is rooted IIRC that was fixed in an early firmware upgrade coz I found the same initially playing with a store demo Defy right out-of-the-box, then played with my brothers work phone a month or two back and it was snappy as anything.
