1290579 2012-07-24 23:28:00 Ive been buying monthly on ebay a few years .

my 2c
-double triple check the freight cost to NZ Before bidding buying :-(
-some sellers WILL try & make extra $$ by massively overcharging for freight
-ALLWAYS use paypall
-allow 6 weeks for delivery . It usually takes 2 weeks. You'll eventually build up a list of sellers who can get it delivered in 1-2 weeks
-many purchases will be delivered signature required, so you may need to go to the local NZPost depot to collect & sign
-check the feedback. Dont expect any seller to have perfect feedback though.
-plenty of fake goods & crappy quality products on ebay: buyer beware

and the best thing about ebay auctions compared to trademe: The start price is the reserve : no stupid BS with a $1 start & $300 reserve .
Most things I buy on ebay are just straight purchases, not an auction.

1290580 2012-07-24 23:48:00 Are you wanting to buy or sell ?

I have done both.

I have been selling on there on and off for 3 years.

Its very hard to get views, seen unless you are a proven top seller (dur)
Also due to the fact that there are so many listings.

I have sold stuff to UK, Australia (lots), USA, Norway, Japan, Korea, Brazil with only one bad sale.

But there are some buying sharks out there.

For Buying its great as there is such a variety of stuff.

You have to pay by Paypal.

And postage from the USA is not that much.

I've also bought and sold on Bonanza and ebid.net.

(Got my Microsoft Office through ebid)

Getting back to ebay

Lots of people hate it (anti small sellers, high fees etc)
But lots of people use it as it is the place to sell in the USA other than Amazon or etsy (if you're into craft)

1290584 2012-07-25 11:28:00 I had it since 2000. I prefer it over TM. More stuff, incl some stuff not available in the NZ market. Postage can be $$ but you need to inquire first. Some are cheap thou like they send it in an envelope, like a camera lens cap for example or a camera battery or cellphone battery. Some of them are even free international postage. Some stuff can also be quite cheap postal like I bought a ceased production aftershave for like $12US postal.

So you can get stuff that has ceased production. Specialists camera tripod not available here. You can get new items too but b/c they are so much cheaper overseas it may be worth it.
I do my payments with paypal. Much lesser than doing a bank draft / wire transfer.

1290585 2012-07-25 12:03:00 I'm sure some Trademe sellers currently buy their products from ebay to resell; I use to do it for certain car tools that were unavailable in NZ at the time. So savings can be made, including from the ebay stores. Also some consumer items are re-branded/renamed in certain markets, and sold on ebay, e.g. for mobile phone batteries, car parts, DVD player, some mobiles, etc. So if a common item in NZ might be renamed on ebay.

So helps to try find their alternative names for buying on ebay, e.g. if costly here or unavailable. I use alibaba com and Asian import sites to get OEM numbers, alternative names, serials, etc and use them to search on ebay.

ebay pulse (http://pulse.ebay.com/) has hot items and trends.

1290586 2012-07-25 12:52:00 I use eBay and like it, mostly I buy from China and USA, delivery can be slow but it's a good way to get things cheap. Pay with PayPal no worries. Yeah they take a cut on the exchange rate I'm sure but it's not much. Of course shipping can be high if it's something large, but I generally only buy small things.

A couple of times things were lost but a replacement or refund was sent - and the Chinese sellers in question seemed to be better at holding up their end of the bargain unlike some of the scumbags on TardMe.

1290587 2012-07-25 20:20:00 Just joined Ebay couple of weeks ago and have my first purchase in transit

Been with PayPal 6 months for other purchases(DealXtreme),just got sick of paying exorbitant postage within NZ from some sellers when something off shore is more attractive

So far nothing negative

1290588 2012-07-25 23:35:00 Ok;

just to double check on an item I am interested in...
www.ebay.com

Am I to understand that shipping to NZ is $3 USD? So for a total of ~$14 USD I can get this item sent to me .. and then all I do is just wait?

This seller looks fairly legit too... anything about the seller or the item I may be overlooking?
