Yes, I found the interface for restoring files simple enough to use. But I did have problem when restoring a complete system from a MacBook to a 27" iMac, it appears the file permissions got screwed in the restore process, I could log into the user account but can't write anything, not even to the desktop.

I couldn't stuff around with trying to restore the 86GB of data at 2am remotely, as the person was flying out the following day. So at the end, I managed to go into terminal and changed the file permissions, created a new user account and manually copied all the files over, phew.

Oh, so if you no longer own a Mac, are you a defector from the "A" team? LOL.

1290508 2012-07-25 03:11:00 Haha not likely. Sold my Mac as it was getting old and slow so I wanted to get something back before it was worth nothing. When I need another new laptop, I'll probably be buying Mac again.

As for the permissions problem I would try using disk utility and repairing disk permissions. I think it has something to do with the way Macs deal with permissions. I think time machine is only really intended for single machine restores. There is migration assistant for moving files between Macs (not sure what it's like haven't ever bothered with it).

Oic . True, it is better to sell tech gear when there is still some value left, at least Macs do generally have better re-sale value than PCs . BTW, I am not in the "A" Team, just work with them but will never buy one . ;-)

I already tried the Disk utility repair disk permissions option and that didn't work . Anyhow, sorted it out at the end, but it does not really live up to the "It just work" slogan though eh .

The Migration assistant screwed up another person's Adobe licences . Re-installing on top didn't work either, had to manually find and delete the licence files and then re-install the Adobe Design Suite . >_<

Wwe upgrade one machine at a time now because there is always a problem with at least one of the machines not liking it. Mostly to do with adobes shitty drm
