1266051 2012-03-21 03:24:00 When did we get the dod given right to steal that which we can't buy?

The argument makes no sense.

if the answer is no, You can't have it, then thats the answer.

If your reply is then, alright, I've stolen it, Then you are in the wrong.

I have no issue with anything anyone does that doesn't affect me as such, but if you are doing dodgy crap then have the good grace keep it quiet, no one cares, and you can't make yourself "in the right" with weak dribble.

Just because the world isn't serving music to you on a platter doesn't mean weak and pathetic arguments deserve to be tabled.

Its not your music peckerheads.
To a degree I can understand his argument but at the end of the day if the stupid movie & music studios refuse to get their act together and allow the people to get what they want they only have themselves to blame.

Ok, so on what grounds do you have the right to steal what someone else won't sell you?

Real justification please, Not just that you want it so therefor theft is justified.

1266053 2012-03-21 04:25:00 I disagree metla and they had their chance. ToughI think Metla technically wins this one. Shops can refuse service, which doesn't give you the right to steal. Wat happens if their do decide to sell it to you but the price is that inflated and you cannot afford it, then does that give you the right to steal, either way their were never going to get your money. plod (107)
1266054 2012-03-21 19:11:00 The annoying thing is that people think that Apple Itunes is selling you legal music.

Well it may be selling you the music legally, but it is only a 192 bit crap file.

When they start selling a full lossless version, then it would be worth paying for the music.

1266055 2012-03-21 20:29:00 Its not stealing its pirating. Even though i hate that term. Its an idea. People have copied music and movies for decades before the internet came along and all of a sudden they realise they have missed the boat and cannot do anything about it except pulverise people with heinous DRM and over the top persecution for a heinous crime. Im not right i will admit that. Still... Screw em i say.

Such a heinous crime of downloading a song oooh

1266056 2012-03-21 21:40:00 I hate the argument that it's not theft, it's a ridiculous attempt to make it seem less criminal. You are taking something that does not belong to you and not paying the rightful owner. How is that not theft? Sure theres the stupid argument that theft requires the physical taking of a thing from a person - which is bullshit and always has been. You can steal an Idea, and you can steal digital data.

I don't like the music companies and movie/TV studios collective attitudes to their customers, but they do spend huge amounts of money creating the content that we want to enjoy and if everyone just pirated it they would stop making it altogether and we'd all lose out. The copyright holders need to pick up their game and the pirates need to stop pretending it's in any way a legitimate thing to steal content.

I wan't a service like netflix I can pay for in NZ, I want to be able to buy a full quality copy of a song or album online regardless of where in the world it was released, and I want to be able to watch the TV shows I like as they are released. As long as these things don't exist I have to live with the fact I can't have what I want unless I'm willing to break the law, and no I don't think that's in any way justified. I don't think using VPNs and proxies to get around the existing restrictions is a reasonable solution either.

Also, when they stop forcing iTunes down your throat. Maybe I don't want to use their crappy program!

1266058 2012-03-21 22:51:00 These arguments have been going on for 40+ years

It used to be common to record songs to tape straight off the radio.Or copy a friends tape/recored. No one had there doors kicked in or $3000000 fines/reparations/jailtime for that . No one with 'mix-tapes' was ever called a criminal.

cassette tape, DAT, CDR, DVDr, VHS, minidisk, DCC
All these were going to ruin 'the industry' & cost Millions in lost sales.
The Music/Movie/TV industry tried to stop the use of all of these formats & did manage to partially cripple some recorders .
'the industry' will never change its attitude.

Ive bought a DVD , in good faith, that turned out to be just a very good copy. So I am up for jailtime for being in procession of stolen goods??

If it was just one, you might have got away with it, but a "procession of stolen goods"?? ;)
