1290706 2012-07-24 23:58:00 I won't bother you with why I might want to do this, but if I buy the stand-alone Access 2010, will it play nice with already-installed Office 2007 and Office 2003 suites?

I can't see me actually wanting to do this, but can I have Access 2010 installed alongside Access 2007/2003?

TIA.

1290707 2012-07-25 00:08:00 If its 64 bit then no you cant. Dont know about 32 bit Office 2010. You'll soon find out, it may tell you when you go to install it. It'll either install it. Or say you'll have to uninstall the older versions first Speedy Gonzales (78)

1290709 2012-07-25 00:57:00 No if Office is 64 bit. You cant have 32 and 64 bit office on the same system. It'd probably install it or it'll say you'll have to uninstall the older versions if you've got 32 bit office 2010. Only way to find out, is to install it. See what happens. But, I wouldn't bother with 2003. Since its no longer supported. And support for 2007 may run out in October Speedy Gonzales (78)

I still don't quite understand what you are saying:

(1) Can I run Access 2010 (32 bit) alongside Office 2007/2003 (32bit)?
(2) Can I run Access 2010 (32bit) alongside Access 2007/2003 (32bit)?

1290711 2012-07-25 01:05:00 Like I said install 2010 you'll find out. It'll say you cant. You'll have to uninstall old versions. Or it'll install and work Speedy Gonzales (78)
1290712 2012-07-25 04:54:00 Ive got access 2003 running on office 2010 64bit. it has never complained, should be good to go. I do install the access into different folders though ie c:/program files(x86)/microsoft office03/ etc Gobe1 (6290)
1290713 2012-07-25 06:33:00 I've done a bit more research, and it looks like as long as you are careful to install the different versions in different folders (which seems obvious, actually :) ) it will all work, although I believe the official MS position is "unsupported".

Good to hear from someone who actually has it working. Thanks.

1290714 2012-07-25 06:47:00 You can run both beside one another as Globe suggested BUT even installing in different folders does not guarantee there wont be problems. ( I know because I just tried it) I used the full packages, Office 2007 & 2010, Even installing in different folders every time you open a program, Access or word for example, it wanted to reconfigure, so opening 2007 it went OK,close then open 2010, and it reconfigured, close open 2007, reconfigure again. wainuitech (129)
1290715 2012-07-25 06:58:00 Ah, right - I read something about that. I'm only planning to run Access 2010 as an extra, so if I understand it, I may get this reconfiguration thing if I run Access, but not with anything else (I hope...) Tony (4941)
