1289823 2012-07-21 10:36:00 I am planning on getting a Intel 330 120Gb SSD which is a SATA III drive .

My mobo is GIGABYTE GA-MA790X-UD4P which is SATA II .

Will this sdd work on this mobo . I am guessing it will .

How much of performance difference will i see as opposed to having this drive on a SATA III mobo or just getting a SATA II SSD ? Anything else i should be aware of .

Thanks

1289824 2012-07-21 10:46:00 Perhaps slightly throttled transfer speeds? Realistically though you should still see a large increase due to the removal of the mechanical parts, so it would still be well worth it. 8ftmetalhaed (14526)

It's a minor difference. If you have a SATA3 motherboard, that's great, but SATA2 will do just fine for now, as most current SSDs are barely just faster than SATA2.

1289827 2012-07-22 08:59:00 Yeah, it will be a mssive improvement over a mechanical drive, but you'll definitely be capping the SSDs performance with SATA2. The 330 series can hit about 450 - 500MB/sec transfer rates, SATA2 an sustain ~300MB/sec. inphinity (7274)
