| 1289754 | 2012-07-20 09:31:00 | Hi, My partner is looking at upgrading her old PC. She is looking to spend around $1500. She doesn't do any major gaming (does play the odd game on her 24inch - but not with all the eye candy turned on), but wants something that will see her through a few years to come. She's asked for my advice and we've been looking at a ivy bridge i5 3550 or 3570K for the cpu and spending around $200-$300 on a cheap mid-ish range GPU. So, any thoughts on the cpu - the 3550 vs the 3570K - will these be good, or overkill. Any any recommendations on a graphics card? Cheers for your help. Andrew |

| 1289755 | 2012-07-20 09:57:00 | GTX 550 Ti or a GTX 560 Ti if you like the Nvidia side of things. If you prefer ATi an HD 7770 or HD 7750 would do the job too, these even give the enthusiast cards HD 7950 and HD 7970 a good run for their money. So these are a serious bang for your buck . These cards are mid range and will handle about anything. If you want to go to entry level there is the GeForce GT 520, GeForce GT 610, GTS 450 these cards aren't nearly as good as a mid range card. The CPU's will do fine but the 3570K is a lot more power full and has an extra 4 virtual core when hyperthreading so basically a 8 Core and is great for overclocking. If you don't do too much CPU intensive work and multitasking the 3550 will be sufficient. |

I don't think you would need the K variant unless you planned to overclock www.cpubenchmark.net Also just purchased a GTX560 (non TI) for my Home Theatre Computer. They seem to have had a price drop recently and is a good option. |
