| 35102 | 2002-02-09 23:53:00 | I have just replaced my CMOS battery, now when I turn on my computer I get an error message saying 'CMOS checksum error - Defaults loaded'. When I press F1 to continue it loads Windows fine except the date is reset to 12.00AM January 1st 1997. I had to take my graphics card out to get to the battery. I am running a P166MMX with 64MB Ram and Win95B. My motherboard is an Intel 82430TX ver1.0 and my BIOS is Award Modular BIOS ver 4.51PG. Any assistance to fix the problem would be greately appreciated. |

This can be caused by a number of thigns but in your case I'd be sure that the battery is no reliably seated and is failing to provide steady current, or that you have put greasy fingerprints on it, having the same effect. Very occassionally a motherboard will do this for no apparent reason. Recently my board was doing that, and there was nothing wrong with the battery or it's connections, and after a while it gave up, and went back to normal... Be aware that it's not hurting your system, all it can do is piss you off, so have a go at re-inserting the battery, cleaning it and loading bios defaults... Hope that helps :) the FAT man |
