The easiest way to do this if you know someone with Windows 98/ME is to create a boot disk under their system as these provide support for CD-ROMs (Start | Settings | Control Panel | Add Remove Programs | Startup Disk | Create Disk). Alternatively you can visit http://www.bootdisk.com and download one of their boot disks. Once you have create a boot disk, test it to make sure it works. Place the disk in the drive and restart the computer. If it does not boot off the disk you may have to change the settings in the bios to check drive A: first. Once at the DOS prompt, you can delete the old Windows directory (however I would suggest, provided you have enough disk space, that you just rename it until you are sure you do not need any of the files it contains). To delete the folder type 'deltree c:\windows /y'. To rename the folder type 'ren c:\windows c:\winold'. Insert the CD-Rom and type the D: (or whatever letter your CD-Rom is). Type 'setup' to begin installation. |

Then you just cd to that directory and type 'setup'. It's a good idea because you can reinstall easily when needed, and have the drivers etc without hunting for the CD. | Guest (0) | ||
