34987 2002-02-09 04:12:00 My wife has had a linux server installed at her school by someone who does not know very much.

Most of the school use macs and they can connect ok.

There are 3 windows machines
Win95, NT4 and Win 2000 Professional.

These machines cannot log in. The linux supplier said it is becasue windows encrypts the password. Is this true? If so how do you turn it off or reconfigure linux to accept the passwords.

Also they said you cannot filter email/internet downloads for viruses on the server. Does any one know of linux anti virus software??

34988 2002-02-09 05:12:00 There is a setting in the SAMBA configuration file on the Linux box to allow or disallow encrypted passwords. As far as I know they must be one or the other. Are the Macs using unencypted passwords? Windows 95b and later use encrypted by default but you can turn it off by editing the registry. Guest (0)
34989 2002-02-10 01:00:00 Thanks John. Can you tell me what registry entry to modify for each machine ver Windows. Or can you tell me somewhere I can look it up myself.

Thanks
