34978 2002-02-09 03:56:00 Hi Team

I'm currently restoring to life an old Compaq Contura Aero 4/33C sub-notebook circa 1993 (486SX33 actually) for no other reason than I like to recondition old technology from time to time and I still enjoy fiddling with DOS.

I need a few bits and pieces, notably a reasonable battery, some RAM and a hard drive that is a little more reliable than mine, which keeps throwing up faulty sectors and booting is very much dependant on how it feels on the day!

If anybody has an old Compaq laptop that is past its use-by date, either a Contura or something of similar vintage that they'd like to send to a kind home for old computers, post a reply and I'll put up an email address you can contact me on. This is strictly a non-commercial activity so free is preferable, but a small amount of drinking money could change hands for suitable example. Auckland would be best, but I'm happy to pay freight from out of town for a good example.

Cheers

34979 2002-02-09 04:33:00 I have some old Toshiba 386 & 486 laptops at the office gathering dust. Not even sure if they are working. Let me know if you feel an overwhelming desire to resurrect those. Guest (0)
34980 2002-02-09 05:05:00 Fancy a Bondwell 486NC? Dead battery and problems replacing it 3 years ago. Guest (0)
34981 2002-02-09 05:45:00 Yep you've just gotta love old PC related stuff. One of my teachers was showing us hid old ZX Spectrum the other day. Now that is preddy cool.

34982 2002-02-09 05:57:00 A friend of mine managed to get a free upgrade to a 286 once, just because someone wanted the antique motherboard ;-) Guest (0)
34983 2002-02-10 07:46:00 Hi Des

I am really intent on restoring my Compaq but if that project hits the rocks I wouldn't mind taking on another old 486 instead. Drop me a line at billy_t_@hotmail.com to let me know your physical location (city only) and an email address that I can contact you on.

Cheers
