| 35092 | 2002-02-10 02:45:00 | Thanks for your advise, have tried but failed to both responses, it seems that my cd-rom is not able to read any data, as sometimes if I use another start up disk I get a message that 'D' drive is 'not ready. However my bios settings show cdrom as third boot device. How do I ensure that the cdrom is working. Colin |

Check that the BIOS actually detects the CD drive. But that does not necessarily mean that DOS booted from a floppy can see it. It would need a driver. You could try making your BIOS use the CD drive as the first boot device. W98 is probably arranged to install direct from a CD? |

| 35096 | 2002-02-10 05:46:00 | You need to install Microsoft CD Extensions (mscdex.exe) and a DOS CD-ROM driver (xxxx.sys) for your CD-ROM to be accessible in DOS. The floppy disk that came with your CD-ROM drive should have both driver and mscdex.exe, as well as a sample script for your config.sys file. Note that the Win98 boot disk contains a generic CD-ROM driver that will enable access to your drive. |
