35268 2002-02-11 04:10:00 Recently formated my pc with a new OS (replaced win95 with win98se) using the full install method (as apposed to an upgrade)and now the computer seems to hang for quite some time at the 'windows startup' screen(about thirty seconds)while it hangs their seems to be no activity ie.no hdd light flickers or hdd noises or anything at all. Then after what seems like forever it comes to life and displays the desktop. Guest (0)

If you have a network card installed but not connected or an on-board network card, disable it in device manager and boot will speed up tremendously. The delay is often caused by the computer looking for a non-existent network connection.

35272 2002-02-11 11:25:00 Well I've disabled that network card, installed the correct driver for the Voodoo and re-configured the Nortons startup properties and the difference it has made is incredible. Thank you so much to everyone that took the time to respond, greatly appreciated :0) Guest (0)
