35255 2002-02-11 03:42:00 Having read Peter A's post and the vinyl to digital articles etc all this seems quite complicated especially when you have your turntable and amp in a different part of the house from your PC Question: Can you buy an external CD recorder [burner as a separable component of your stereo system that connects to your amp in exactly the same way as a good old fashioned audio tape deck does to record vinyl[or any other source] on to audio tape.I'm thinking of not just tranferring my vinyl but also recording directly from radio or from my CD player ie by passing the CP altogether. I wouldent think it is possible but have a look around the net you never know what you might find.

35257 2002-02-11 05:45:00 I am sure that you can find such a thing. I am very sure that it would be expensive.

The computer way is fairly cheap. Why not move your turntable to be beside your computer while you are archiving your LPs?

The approach I have seen in the audio field is to move away from (now obsolete) CDs. You can buy an audio box which has a big hard disk drive, and a CD reader. You load your audio Cds to the hard disk, and play from that.
Again it is not cheap.

35259 2002-02-12 15:45:00 Thanks guys for your input. I just thought the old audio tape deck technology with its direct link through your stereo amp would by now have been readily replaced by the CD recorder as a separable component. Guest (0)
35260 2002-02-16 09:15:00 Hi,

If you go to a specialist HiFi shop, you should be able to lay your hands on a CDRecorder that you can hook up to your amp. I got one s/h for $399

I have a Phillips recorder which does near perfect recordings

Cheers, ALAN
