35576 2002-02-13 20:38:00 After a virus (magistr) cleanup recently, whenever my computer restarts, a dialogue box appears on the desktop with the subject line ODBCCONE - invalid parameters, and the message configure ODBC drivers and data sources. I click OK and it goes away. Norton Utilities identified a registry key pointing to the wrong directory and pointed it to another directory - now I get 2 dialogue boxes saying the same thing. Can I simply delete the registry entry or is this something essential I need to fix? Guest (0)

It might be ODBCCONF.EXE that you're referring to.

This is the Open Database Connectivity driver configuration program, part of Microsoft's Data Access Components stack.

Check in the Registry to see if there's a RunOnce line with ODBCCONF.EXE specified, and back up the key somewhere, and then delete it. Restart your system. It sounds as if Norton Utilities have munged the Registry for you, so you might have to reinstall Windows (or manually sort out the Registry errors -- reinstalling is usually quicker).
