| 35563 | 2002-02-13 14:58:00 | Hii, I am after buying a mbo with capability of Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound basically for DVD's. What is the diff with all the ads from mbo manufacturers who list such as 'Creative CT5880 5.1-channel audio chip'. Does this mean you can setup a 5spkr system and enjoy true Dolby Digital surround sound as in Theatres? Also i have seen 'Creative CT5880 4 channel audio chip' lisited for Gigabyte GA-VTXH+ mbo. How does it differ when it has the same chipset number/model??? And some mbo manufacturers mention 6 channel setup for C-media. Does this mean it is superior then Dolby Digital 5.1 surround sound or is it just addition of an additional speaker. Well basically i am confused with reading all these terms: AC97 Codec, AC3, Creative CT-5880. Are they the same thing? Which one is better if so?? Can someone tell me what all they mean? I know i am just being lazzyy to do a search on google and read some tutorial :) Cheers |

On board sound, especially 5.1 type, uses a lot of CPU power, so it'd be better to use a seperate card that doesn't drain system power. HTH Mike. |
