35548 2002-02-13 20:16:00 I've been scrapping with them for months over some charges they made to my account for calls other people made. Has taken huge amount of time, they made it my problem even though it was their fault.

Got passed from one person to another. Consistently got stone walled.

Then, they take so long for the credits that they take money off me even though the account is already in credit.

I made them send me a cheque for the balance.

And yet there is nowhere else I can go for the services they provide.

35549 2002-02-15 01:53:00 Telecom is the problem with selling SOE's. When they become private they're so huge that they CAN and DO what ever they want.

I was an Xtra customer untin I got my first bill 3 months later $120 over charged which had to be paid or I'd loose my phone account. Never again.

I'm not the only person I know this happened to. I don't know how they would cope if they wern't so huge to begin with

35550 2002-02-15 03:37:00 Ok, there are problems. And there are alternatives - Vodaphone, Clear, numerous ISPs ... vote with your feet.

BUT.... would it REALLY be better if it was still Government owned?

Bureaucrats are given money and told to spend it. The more money they spend and the more staff they hire - the more important they become. Don't spend your budget and your cred goes down.

Contrast this with private industry. Come in under budget and under time and you get a promotion.

If the Govt still owned Telecom it would not be as efficient - or as profitable - as it is now.

Terralink was facing huge losses. The Govt flogged it off and yesterday's paper said it was making a profit. If it had remained in Govt hands the taxpayers would be funding ever increasing losses.

If you consider them to be over zealous at extracting your cash - buy shares.
