35844 2002-02-15 23:40:00 The biggest problem with THAT particular company is that when the computer conks out it has to be returned to the factory for repairs. Take Dell for example, they offer a 1 year on site warrantee with their PCs, so it seems that the old saying that you get what you pay for is true. Guest (0)
35845 2002-02-16 02:10:00 On site service is very expensive to provide. Customers pay for that. I suppose that for Dell to remain in business they have to keep the failure rate way down.

P C Company have carry in --- that must keep the retail price down, and the sales up.
We don't hear from the people who have not had troubles with their machines. If their typical quality was too terrible, I would expect them to fold.

35846 2002-02-16 02:19:00 Warranties seem to have deteriorated in the years since PC Direct had a 3 year parts and labour one.

Many are P&L for one year, and parts only for two more (if you're lucky).

Even worse, they can take a week to ten days to fix things when they have them (IBM took about ten days to replace a video card for me a few weeks back, I did say it wasn't urgent but they didn't have to take it quite that literally).

Remember Osborne? They made a splash with a five year warranty and didn't make it for the five years. Pretty hard to cover that. However, people like quantum do give about 5 years on their hard disks.

Anyway, let's face it. We have more problems with windows and office and explorer and outlook than we ever do with the hardware. Might as well have a 3 day warranty on the hardware.
