35758 2002-02-15 08:04:00 We had some work done on the computer by a friend - he put in more RAM and a new hard drive but in the process the cd rom drive (E drive) has disappeared from my computer.
When we put a cd into the drive it starts up but doesn't read the cd.
When we go to install new hardware it says that there is no cd rom installed!
Also in my computer the c drive icon has a telephone included and when we click to open the file it comes up with a blank screen that says up the top cd installer.
Help!

35759 2002-02-16 01:27:00 More information needed, Rachel.

What version of Windows? Have you now got two hard disks or was the new one installed as a replacement? Does your friend know about master/slave jumpers? Ask tactfully (or not ;<) ).

35760 2002-02-19 10:06:00 Well for some strange reason , it has come back - we put it in to be fixed with a proper computer guy and he siad that nothing was wrong with it. The drive is now there and working fine.

To answer your questions - i would still like to know what happened - We are running win 98 , it was win 95 before we had the work done. The drives were partitioned to begin with before we put the new drive in.
what is master/slave jumpers?
thanks
