| 35747 | 2002-02-15 05:59:00 | I am running winXP Pro, and have, all of a sudden, started getting bizzare errors when trying to use CD's in my acer CDRW drive. If i try and open almost any kind of file (text files seem to work OK, just compressed and exe/com files don't work and maybe some i haven't tried yet) off a cd it aborts, and pops up one of three messages. 1) D:\Setup.exe Only part of a ReadProcessMemory or a WriteProcessMemory was completed. [OK] 2) 16 bit MS-DOS Subsystem D:\Setup.exe The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction. CS:9fe3 IP:0007 OP:fe ff ff 89 1f Choose 'Close' to terminate the application. [Close] [Ignore] (pressing ignore reults in the same message with different hex data) 3)compressed files don't open saying they are bad or missing the signature bytes as required by the specs. Also, if I attempt to copy the files to the c: i get I/O Error messages just before the copy operation completes. This phenomenon occurs in all accounts, even the Administrator account, which i almost never use. I cannot pin the phenomenon down to any software installs either, as i have uninstalled the last three apps to be installed just in case, but to no avail. Can anyone assist?? Cheers, Craig. |
