36008 2002-02-17 07:22:00 I am trying to install a Hpdeskjet 656c printer to my Hp Pavilion 4410 computer(about 2 years old). It uses USB only. However my USB port doesn't seem to work properly. Is there a procedure for testing and making sure a USB port is installed correctly. I have tested another device(ZIP Drive) that works on the USB port of my other computer. It won't connect either. The system profile device manager comes up with an error on the USB Root Hub after trying to install the printer. Guest (0)
36009 2002-02-17 07:52:00 what ver of windows are you using. if it is 95 you will have to upgrade as 95 has limited usb support.ie almost nothing works with it.
it could be that you just need to enable usb in your bios

36010 2002-02-17 08:07:00 Hi steve. The usb's on HP machines seem to be very touchy/prone to error.Anyway the real prob is that you cannot get at the hub driver through there restore discs, but if you go control panel/system/(the hubs etc will have yellow exclamation marks over them) Select and go 'update driver' with a copy of W98 in the CD drive. You may have to go 'install driver and even try a restart of the machine with the W98 CD in place, when it should autofind the usb setup.Do not be put off by 1-2 failures, sometimes HP machines suddenly do what they have been saying they will not.All the Best.Alister Guest (0)
