| 35946 | 2002-02-16 23:43:00 | i am running a toshibea satelitte laptop, which is around 1year old with win 98 as the operationg system. recently i have been getting a lot of 'this programme has performed and illegal operation' messages when opening several pieces of software - in particluar my hp scanner and canon printer - some times a reboot will solve, other times ? 'time out' for the pc and still other times in frustration a reinstall of the particular software - does this perhaps spell the demise of the hard disk drive? - although i have run multiple norton utilities, and virus scans (with the latest dats) and ms scandisk sessions and cant seem to detect and bad things.???? cheer will |

(I'm going by memory for this) You do it by right-clicking my computer|Advanced then click on|Performance or paging file or similar. Change the settings so you can type in an amount. Depending on your RAM I guess setting it to equal to your amount of RAM. This should allow for more swapping area for your RAM. HTH |
