36101 2002-02-18 00:04:00 I am in the market for a new video card, an I was wondering if anyone can tell me what card I should get, prices or where I can go for comparisons.

I mostly use my pc for work (code cutting, web authoring, some work with adobe photoshop 6), however I would like to be able to play some of the newer games such as Ghost Recon, Tony Hawk 3 and so on, I have also heard that some cards have TV in/out.

My current card is a 4mb AGP that struggles with Half Life.

I have next to no knowledge of the ins and outs of video cards, so any information would be appreciated.

36102 2002-02-18 03:43:00 I recently got my hands on a AGP Gforce2 400mmx with TV out upgrading from my TNT 2. This card is great and should handle most stuff fairly well, it cost me Aus $135. But the price always changes, especially with the release of the new Gforce 4, so the price for the older Gforce cards should drop soon.

Either way GF2 and up should handle what your after.

Also the online support is great, with constant driver updates.

However TV In & Out is a little more pricy.

Hope this helps to some degree.

36103 2002-02-18 08:58:00 Hi,

I'd vote for a GF2 MX 400 64MB as well... I use one, and it is the best value for money in any of my components at NZ$175... Look at my modem, I payed $50 for it, and can it do anything like what my graphics board can? NO!

Moving on, your other options would be a TNT2 M64, a little slower, and priced at $95.

If your motherboard only has APG 2X, you probably want a new M/B, as AGP 2X is a fair hindrance... If you're doing a new MB, just go the whole hog a get a new PC, once you've changed your MB, everything else turns out not to work properly or is put completely in the shade, and you end up replacing the whoel shabango anyway...

Hmm... Shabango, not bad...

Yes, uh, well, that's my advice...

:)

36104 2002-02-18 09:57:00 what sort of pc do you have??

geforce2 mx400 is good but a geforce2ti or gts would be better for games but theres no point in buying a nice video card if the rest of the pc can't keep up.
