36434 2002-02-20 10:52:00 How many times can you refill the ink cartridge on an Epson printer I usually manage about 2 refills the secret seems to refill before the cartridge runs out.Is there anyway of getting a cartridge to work after it has been refilled when it shows full on the ink contents gauge but wont print? The printer is great at printing pictures when printing on photo quality paper. Guest (0)
36435 2002-02-20 11:48:00 Hi James.

I use the calida refills (round bulb) and the cartridge is generally pretty empty by the time I go to refill. The bulb will give me just over one full fill, so I presume it holds exactly one fill from empty.

I need to use the head cleaning utility to get the ink flowing properly again. Sometimes have to run it 3 times. The animation works on time I think. It goes back to showing full after it has been removed, wether or not u refill it. Not very accurate. I'm talking about the 480. Dont know which model you've got.

Don't forget the head clean.

Cheers.

36436 2002-02-20 23:51:00 My understanding is that printer ink tanks are normally 'sponge'-filled. If the tank is allowed to run low before refilling a certain amount of ink dries hard in the sponge and reduces its holding capacity, hence each refil usually accepts less ink than the previous one. To counter this I am experimenting with topping-up at monthly intervals (suggest more frequently if you use a lot of ink) to try to minimise the clogging bit. I don't yet know if this works. 36437 2002-02-21 02:50:00 Hi. The main problem with re-using Epson cartridges is in the removing from the holder as this immediately lets air into the business end. Next time you get the chance, study where you can drill holes in the clamp to gain access to each chamber without damaging the air mazes. Then you can do a refill without having to remove the cartridge, using a hypodermic and plugging the holes. Never insert the hypodermic to deeply as this may damage the diaphragms over the ink outlets. Guest (0)
36438 2002-02-21 06:44:00 Thanks people for your answers.I thought the problem may be air getting into the jet connections at the other the end.The idea of drilling the holes makes sense. The printer is the 640 model .I have been using the calidad refils which I find very good.If anyone else has ideas I would be interested in reading them. These messages at F1 are very good and I find myself reading them more often as you certainly learn a lot.James Guest (0)
