36317 2002-02-19 16:46:00 Hey Learned people
When the IT people check hdds for nefarious content, how do they scan it? Is there a prog that I can download that will check mine to see if anyone has been accessing naughty stuff?

36318 2002-02-20 03:42:00 If you are the Courts Dept IT people you look at the log files for their proxy server. That's the box which handles all the Internet traffic for their network.

Or, more likely, you have a programme which 'looks' at the log files. The log files are big. 'Dubious' site names are put on a list which the programme refers to.

If you access the Internet through a company network, everything you do goes through a company computer. Big Brother may not be actively watching. But he can find out where you have been.

On YOUR machine, your browser keeps a list of recently accessed sites. If you are *very* keen on certain sites, you might have them 'bookmarked'.

So when the Internal Affairs Department inspectors come knocking on your door, the evidence will be on your disk.
