36312 2002-02-19 13:39:00 I have ZoneAlarm Pro version 2.6.362 and up till now it's been fine.

What happen is my computer crashed with the BSOD in WinXP because I could force a program to close and I tried shutting down.

I restarted on XP scanned my FAT32 partitions just to make sure they were ok.

I connected to the internet and zone alarm popped up saying it detected the new connection. Which is weird because I had ZA already set up. I look in the programs and it had no programs apart from Generic Host Process for Win32 Services.

But here's the strange thing. It's allowing server but not allowing connect. But that's not all. Every program ZA detected (not prompting me if I should allow them they just added themselves) again with not allowing to connect but act as servers. I know it's not possible to not allow connects and be a server.

I don't know what's going on I haven't tried to change the settings yet. But I find it weird. Especially since it's giving every program server rights but not connect rights.

I'll fix it up anyhow but should I be concern? I know why my computer crashed because the program wasn't responding and forcing it to close didn't work either so I tried restarting and it BSOD me.

I am running WinXP and have NAV2002 and NIS2002. ZA had worked fine for the last couple of months until now.

Just too weird for me.

36313 2002-02-19 14:07:00 Had to reinstall it because it didn't allow me to change any of the settings back.

Too weird.

36314 2002-02-19 15:31:00 Computer crashed again with the BSOD. Something to do with win32k.sys now. I just scanned my computer for viruses and nothing turned up.

ZA went back to it's not allowing connects but servers again after that crash.

I just can't see what it could be. I am running WinXP Pro.

36315 2002-02-19 22:13:00 XP has a built in Firewall. Could ZA and that firewall be conflicting in their functions?

BSOD's are usually hardware related so that could be a whole seperate problem. Did XP detect and install all your hardware properly on install?

36316 2002-02-20 01:58:00 I don't run XP's built in firewall because it's protection needs improvement. It closes certain ports but still leaves a few open.

XP installed all my hardware correctly. I have never had a problem with BSODs apart from it being related to my graphics card which is now resolved.

They don't seem to be happening now so I am uncertain what could have caused it. I think the fix was uninstalling ZA and cleaning up the registry and reinstalling it.

My only concern was that I may have a virus/trojan that was doing this and I hope that's not what it is as my NAV is not picking it up then.
