| 36540 | 2002-02-21 07:57:00 | I am trying to upgrade my 333 celeron cpu with a P3 500 on a GA-6BA Gigabyte motherboard. This should be possible according to the manual and GBs site info, however when I attempt to boot I get -nothing! The screen is blank with the yellow light below the screen blinking. I have set the clock multiplier to 5 (it was already) and the FSB is set to 100Mhz. I have upgraded the BIOS to v.2.4 which, according to the guff, should support this chip. My m/board is a REV 2.5 which is not mentioned in the info on the GB site, and Gigabyte dont seem to bother answering my repeated requests for information about this problem. Please -anyone, got any clues? | Guest (0) | ||

I remember doing this with my last upgrade (a slot 1 PII 350)....I thought I'd pushed it in properly but when I tried to boot I got absolutley nothing at all. I went to bed thinking I'd fried my board and new chip. Next morning I thought I'd give it a REAL hard shove seeing as I had nothing to lose. Sure enough there was a satisfying click and everything worked just fine. But the amount of pressure I had to put on the chip was frightening. |
