36478 2002-02-21 00:09:00 I have a HP PC running 98 and it tells me my spare hard drive space has gone from 1.2G to 250mb in a week although I haven't downloaded anything.I have defragged, scandisked and run a virus check and emptied the caches to no avail.Any advice please,Max. Guest (0)
36479 2002-02-21 00:45:00 Have you checked your windows/temp/ directory for tmp files??
The easiest way to do this is to do a find (start > find > files or folders) and type in *.tmp .. this will find all tmp files on your hard drive and unless you recognise them as something you need, you should be able to safely delete them!

tmp files don't take up an awful lot of room, but it's a start.
HTH :-)

36480 2002-02-21 01:28:00 Open find and do a search for win386.swp and check its size.

Its your swapfile and can become quite large if you don't have much ram (<128mb) and have been running a large program (ie game).

Windows will shrink it down after a while.

Also heaps of space can be wasted by files in C:\windows\temp, they are all safe to remove after rebooting.
