| 36472 | 2002-02-20 21:25:00 | Grandson destroyed his Win95 Digital PC, by putting in a destructive games cd. Can someone help with the entries in the Autoexec.Bat and Config.sys entries. Son-in-law bought two Digital PC's from surplus company stock, my wife has the other, but the two files don't work on the other PC, even though the CDRom are the same. Wife's two files: autoexec.bat c:samsungmscdex.exe/d:sscd000 config.sys: device=c:samsungsscdrom.sys/d:sscd000/v I didn't try the v above as lower case. The hard drive had been formatted and the fdisk would only take the No 1 line. Thanks for any kind help. Les 3. |

Find where sscdrom.sys is on your system (or get a copy of it), and copy it to c:\samsung\ Then change the line in config.sys to: device=c:\samsung\sscdrom.sys /d:sscd000 /v And the autoexec.bat line to: c:\windows\command\mscdex.exe /d:sscd000 /v BTW, DOS isn't case sensitive. |

| 36475 | 2002-02-21 05:04:00 | There is a good guide to autoexec.bat and config.sys at this web site: home.worldonline.dk The lines you quoted are not right. It's more likely to read c:\samsung\mscdex.exe.... etc, and similarly for the line in config.sys, putting in the right spaces as Graham noted. The samsung cdrom driver has probably loaded its own mscdex.exe program into a samsung directory. As bm says you dont need them anyway in Windows 95, in fact there could be a conflict between the 16 bit drivers loaded via autoexec.bat and config.sys and the 32 bit Windows drivers. If you really need DOS cdrom drivers it is much better to have a multi configuration start up option in the autoexec and config files so that you can choose either to start in DOS or to start Windows. That way there is no conflict between real mode and protected mode drivers. The same goes for soundcard drivers. If you are into DOS games then it is probably better to have a DOS boot mode where all the drivers and memory are optimised for DOS. |

| 36476 | 2002-02-21 05:07:00 | Thanks b m, hard drive has only the following files and directory: C:\autoexec.bat C:\config.sys C:\samsung\chklist.ms;mscdex;readme;sscdrom.sys C:\edit.com Will copy the windows\command files over, although the only other file PCU had on my wife's pc was command.com, but this file will not copy onto the problem pc. I don't know what the son-in-law did to format or fdisk. The cd light blinks 11 times before stopping. Will keep you posted. Thanks, Les |

As Win95 is about to be archived, my son-in-law burnt a copy of the original Win95 CD. This does not always work on different machines, a safeguard no doubt. Thanks again. Les Hibbard |
