1267790 2012-04-01 07:35:00 Just got Telstra Clears $75 Home Plan, the Broadband is working fine.
But now my phones don't ring on incoming calls. Take the ADSL filters off the phones and they ring.
I can phone out fine.

I suspect that there is a wiring fault. Most likely not wired correctly going by other wiring problems I have had fixed caused by the previous owner.
Anyone got any idea where the problem lies.

1267793 2012-04-01 08:40:00 Had a client about a year ago with the same problem, I suggested a wiring fault but it turned out someone hadnt set something up at the exchange properly. My suggestion would be to ring telstra first and get them to check it all at their end first. If its all correct their end, then look into your wiring. Good luck. Iantech (16386)

How old are the phones ( 10 years +) ? The ADSL filters probably aren't connecting the ringing capacitor in the early style 2 wire jacks. Newer phones don't need this connection so the latest jacks don't include the capacitor anyway.

1267797 2012-04-01 09:34:00 Did an install a few weeks back with this problem on one of the phones.... it was a 1992 model :D Renegade (16270)
1267798 2012-04-01 10:27:00 Rang TelstraClear, he told me to do the "Isolation Test", disconnected everything and tried them one at a time in all combinations.
No Success.

The Phones are over 10 Years old, but they rang fine before I changed over to TelstraClear.

I have emailed them back about the problem. Couldn't be bothered sitting on the phone waiting half an hour.

God, how I hate helpdesks.

Your phones are old enough that they need access to an external ringing capacitor unlike newer phones that include 1 in the phone. ADSL filters only connect 2 wires to the line and don't connect the phone to any capacitor in the jack. Older filters included their own capacitor for old phones.

The latest spec for ADSL filters includes the following

"So few 3-wire telephones are now being used within the network that continuation of the
practice of ringing capacitor installation in ADSL2+ Line Filters is no longer required. If
customers wish to continue using these telephones on ADSL2+ equipped lines they must
purchase a suitable 3-wire adaptor. "

Your options

Add ringing adapters to the filters if they are still available (Modempak used to sell them)

Have a central splitter installed so each telephone doesn't need a plug in filter

Change your phones.
