1267667 2012-03-31 22:28:00 Did you people remember to put your clocks back an hour this morning. I still have a few clocks and gadgets to change including my cameras, GPS, car clock, weather station, watch and alarm clock. Good time to check the smoke alarms. Bobh (5192)
1267668 2012-03-31 23:00:00 I'm still struggling with the 'irony' of the new tax year starting on April 1st. It's like the govt is deliberately, yet indirectly saying "We've got you for life, and you're stuck with it". Paul.Cov (425)
1267669 2012-03-31 23:02:00 Just off to buy a new smoke alarm. Old one says to replace after 2008. Smoke alarms on special at The Warehouse until 3/4/12. You can get two types. Ionisation models require a tiny amount of radioactive material to make them work and photoelectric ones. According to consumer they are both just as good as each other. Check the expiry date of your smoke alarm, some expire after 5 years.

The Fire Service recommends householders only install photoelectric smoke alarms as they provide more effective all-round detection and alarm in all types of fire scenarios and are more likely to alert occupants in time to escape safely.

Got a photoelectric alarm from the Warehouse plugged in the supplied battery and the thing kept on giving a beep every 15 seconds, aha a flat battery. Plugged in a brand new one I had and the beeping stopped. I will see if I can get a new battery off them tomorrow.

A lot of landlords who install smoke alarms in their flats quite often find that the batteries are missing. Tenants most likely remove the batteries to stop the annoying beep but do not bother to replace them. :2cents:

1267675 2012-04-01 04:34:00 Yeah because they only beep around 2 in the morning prefect (6291)
1267676 2012-04-01 04:40:00 They beep in the night due to that being the coldest time of the 24 hours and it's the cold that affects the battery most gary67 (56)
