2012-07-30 04:00:00 | It may fix it if its got the right files on it. Is vista 32 or 64 bit? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-07-30 04:12:00 | 32 bit. So I put in the XP cd, and it booted into Vista straight away! :D Awesome... it doesn't seem to want to boot the CD though so I can run the repair. Now that I can get to windows, is there anyway other ways I can fix this? Thanks heaps for the help Speedy ! really appreciate it.

2012-07-30 04:14:00 | I'm currently running sfc /scannow in the hope that might, but any other repair things I can try would be awesome. Cheers. | pct (16854) | |
2012-07-30 04:18:00 | Sweet, umm you have to press R somewhere when you boot from the CD. Did you change the bootdisk in the BIOS, so it'll boot from CD? Then press a key when it says press a key on the screen? | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
2012-07-30 04:48:00 | Since you have windows running you could get Easy BCD and use it to repair the Boot and boot menu problems possibly, I didn't read through speedy's links but it seemed like the grub boot manager might be the problem with windows not booting. | dugimodo (138) | |
2012-07-30 05:43:00 | FWIW, on my multiboot system (with Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Server 2008 R2 and Ubuntu), I installed GRUB onto the Ubuntu partition (as opposed to the MBR), then used EasyBCD to chainload that from the Windows bootloader. | pcuser42 (130) | |
2012-07-30 06:28:00 | Ok so I installed EasyBCD and repaired it... everything was fine, until restarting.....now it comes up with Windows Boot Manager. Tells me to put in windows installation disc and restart.... I'm putting in the XP one I used to get it going but it doesn't seem to be picking it up. I changed the bootdisk in the BIOS but it seems to make no difference. The error is that "the Windows Boot Configuration Data fie does not contain a vaild OS entry". Status 0xc0000098 - File \Boot\BCD if it helps. Please help!

You need to put your Vista disc in: the Windows Boot Manager was used starting from Windows Vista. (Windows XP uses the funny old boot.ini thing.) The error is that "the Windows Boot Configuration Data fie does not contain a vaild OS entry". Status 0xc0000098 - File \Boot\BCD if it helps. Sounds as if your bootloader doesn't know about any OSs ;) Vista may be able to pick up itself from its recovery disc, and from there add the others in EasyBCD. Remember, when you install a new bootloader, it forgets about the old one, options and all! |

2012-07-30 06:58:00 | I wonder if the Vista 32 bit recovery cd / ISO Wainuitech sent me will work. What version of windows are you using now Pct?? And do you have a cd/dvd burner and a blank cd?? And are you on broadband? If you are, I could send you an ISO. Which MAY work. But you need to burn it. Its 123mb | Speedy Gonzales (78) | |
