1267461 2012-03-31 03:38:00 But the large performance hit quite negates any actual advantage.

Correct. The real question is:
Which is the lesser, the performance hit from Nortons, or the performance hit from being infected with a virus?

:D

1267462 2012-03-31 03:41:00 To be fair Norton does detect some viruses, occasionally.

Really?
Ask Wainuitech about test results.
Personally I always came across up to date copies of Norton on malware infected PCs, showing it was oblivious to most of it.......

Kapersky has crap performance issues, but at least it finds stuff.

1267463 2012-03-31 07:05:00 I have run various versions of Nortons over the years and have had no problems. In fact this new system of mine had a 60 day trial version of Nortons Internet Security on it. I worked alright with no problems. Have uninstalled it and now using AVG 2012 free. I see AVG has a function in it where you can stop sites tracking you. It gives you the option to block or unblock these sites. Google is one of them.
:)
My sister had Nortons on their PC and I told her to put MSE on it. She could hardly believe the speed improvement with MSE.

I would think that "detects some viruses, occasionally" and "oblivious to most of it" are much the same thing...

1267466 2012-03-31 08:00:00 This thread was basically about Nortons screwing the system ( W7 & NIS 2012) , causing data to be lost and being a system Hog (still) - I didn't actually do any scans on this persons drive to see if it was or wasn't infected in any way shape or form apart from scanning her data that was being put back with Nod32 beforehand. :). wainuitech (129)
1267467 2012-03-31 08:20:00 Unfortunitly wainui, it's a case of give the customer what their want, not what their need plod (107)
1267468 2012-03-31 08:41:00 So true, all yo can do is advise or warn, if they dont want to listen thats fine, you can only do your best, after all its their PC. wainuitech (129)
1267469 2012-03-31 10:51:00 Don't worry, the customer is going to be heavily punished for their folly. Charge them heaps to take it and the viruses out and they will be fined as well. R2x1 (4628)
