1267082 2012-03-27 22:09:00 We clearly have different Ideas about what high end is :) I got a Onkyo similar to the one posted above for <$600 from JB Hi-Fi and I love it. At near full volume it's hitting the pain threshold without noticeable distortion and I can't imagine why I'd spend any more. This type of equipment is a very personal choice of course, I just personally would get no more enjoyment from a receiver that cost 3 times as much.

It snowballs too, if I had an $1800 receiver I'd want a decent set of speakers which would lead to wanting a proper room set up for good acoustics.... I'll stick with my "cheap" setup (about $6K all up when new but bought in stages)

1267083 2012-03-27 22:10:00 You could search on shopping com (uk.shopping.com/) (owned by ebay) or other comparison sites. (http:) I have brought convertors via ebay (there is also ebay singapore (www.ebay.com.sg/)), through their ebay stores, which might link their websites. Though pricing seems to work out the same for the same products and sellers for all ebay domains.

Maybe try browser shopping addons - which try to show lowest prices and reviews for the same product, when you click on a product link. I use invisible hand, (addons.mozilla.org) or ciuvo which works on NZ online products. Often lowest prices seem to come from Amazon, Walmart, and many others. Popular shopping addons reviews here. 1267084 2012-03-27 22:28:00 Why aren't you looking at Yamaha? CYaBro (73)
1267085 2012-03-27 23:17:00 Digimodo, my post was misleading. Budget for amp is $5-800. It was only looking at us prices did I up the ante on what I was looking at after sister inlaw mentioned she would be willing to do any leg work over in the states. Cyabro, I have not discounted any brand, my only requirements is hdmi return and for it to be networkable and be controlled by eithe an android or iOS device. And the original pioneer i looked at in NZ met all these conditions. I don't mind paying a premium for buying in NZ, it was just that their are price gouging. But have decided to get it here anyway due to advice from here. plod (107)

Ask them to resend it as a "gift", that way I dont think you have to pay any GST or import tax etc. (someone will correct me if Im wrong Im sure) Iantech (16386)
1267087 2012-03-28 03:50:00 I was lookin at the pioneers as well. Can you tell if it is dual voltage? If that is the term used

Yes I'm pretty sure it's dual voltage. We got it off 3deals.co.nz for $599 i think.

1267089 2012-03-28 06:21:00 Yes Yamaha bought out a Digital Sound Processor amp in 1986 which was the forunner of todays surround sound home theatre systems. www.techenclave.com scroll down the page to read about the Yamaha's DSP-1. You could also check out Denon gear.

1267090 2012-03-28 06:30:00 All my past stereo gear has been two Channel. Except for one htib. Denton is nice Trev but not getting bang for buck Unfortunitly unless there is a bargain around. Just with I could afford to have the same quality gear I had before kids. Haha plod (107)
1267091 2012-03-28 18:54:00 You may want to look at the Onkyo's then, they have all the features you mention and at a fairly reasonable price. Only bit I'm unsure about is HDMI return. I have 4 HDMI inputs on mine and it's great, the only cables running to the TV are power and 1 HDMI.
I replaced my 10 year old Sony with it and it's a huge improvement despite supposedly being the same power output, although I think the sony sounded better originally too.
