1267450 2012-03-30 07:05:00 The person had only renewed the Norton about a month ago, I did try to convince her, but she insisted that she wanted it back in, even after telling her it was the cause of the problem.

Dont think she was to impressed when she looked at the recovery partition - saying it was a different name and size to the original - I then informed her it was a recovery image of the system, minus her data BEFORE Norton was installed so next time it corrupted I could use that. Then she asked if and when it would corrupt again -- dont think she liked the answer of "any time", could be tomorrow, could be next week, or month or year or never.

The OS was loaded from a sysprep image anyway, which doesn't take as long as a normal full install.

The upside was she asked as I was leaving how much was the Nod32, as it might be a good idea to put in a recommended AV.

1267454 2012-03-30 20:40:00 I have run various versions of Nortons over the years and have had no problems. In fact this new system of mine had a 60 day trial version of Nortons Internet Security on it. I worked alright with no problems. Have uninstalled it and now using AVG 2012 free. I see AVG has a function in it where you can stop sites tracking you. It gives you the option to block or unblock these sites. Google is one of them.

1267455 2012-03-30 21:56:00 Just got a call from the customer this morning wanting to know where her videos were, as I pointed out the corruption wiped them and I couldn't find anything apart from what was put back. (she had backups anyway)

Seems Norton did something last night,(wasn't to sure what, but the Norton system try Icon was flashing apparently) and this morning it took quite a while to boot up, fine here before I took it back and that was even after making sure it was updated OK.

@ Trev, make sure you have a windows repair CD stashed away someplace - I've seen AVG corrupt a couple of times this year and stop the PC from booting in any mode and you have to repair it Via the Recovery CD.

1267456 2012-03-30 22:04:00 I remember customers like that, back when I worked in the Cyber Cafe, who would be adamant we used their paid license and then switch to something better when it ran out. In those cases I'd just refuse to install it myself, I'd rather leave them with nothing than give them a false sense of security ;) Chilling_Silence (9)
1267457 2012-03-30 22:33:00 To be fair Norton does detect some viruses, occasionally.

But the large performance hit quite negates any actual advantage.

Do you think it is fair to mention the negative? I mean to say!
