1267269 2012-03-29 03:32:00 You are not wrong that if the freight and insurance (as PCtek mentioned) and added to it, the difference is not that great, but question is, why dealers in the US can sell it at such a low price (without freight and insurance) but our dealers in NZ can't do it? I am sure that it is made in China and the US and NZ are all getting from the same origin. They all have to pay freight and insurance costs. Our dealers in NZ are having too high mark-ups. bk T (215)
1267270 2012-03-29 04:08:00 but question is, why dealers in the US can sell it at such a low price One reason is the numbers game -- in the USA they have MANY more people than little ol NZ.

Here in NZ, they may for example have customers buy 1000 of a product over the whole country, in USA they have millions.

Its like getting Computer supplies from the wholesalers, in NZ the importer may put an order in for 100 items, yet some place in USA puts in an order for 10,000 of the same thing, who do you think is going to get first priority, and because the bigger order buys more they get a better price from the manufacture ;)

1267271 2012-03-29 04:38:00 ebay, less than 15 dollars to NZ for one of those fans. (www.ebay.com) Check currency at XE com. (www.xe.com) May need to email to ask about NZ shipping or find another seller. Buy two, it's what I do for some low cost electronic items. kahawai chaser (3545)

I agree with you, to a certain degree - we don't have the population like other big nations to support the businesses. But I do not agree with the ridiculous, extreme high mark-ups of our dealers, take this fan item for example. I think they are killing themselves.

1267273 2012-03-29 18:05:00 There are stores, say PBTech, who opt for the "Little bit of profit from a lot of transactions" model. Others prefer a lot of profit from a few customers...

I've got a shipito Virtual Mailbox for a year. Ended up using it so much and wanted to combined packages, it's well worth it :D

Chill, what's your experience with shipito? From your experience, what would be the approximate freight cost for sending a small item like this fan to NZ?

BTW, are you in anyway related to PBTech? :D

1267275 2012-03-29 20:04:00 bk T have a look at Buy USA: http://www.buyusa.co.nz

Hope this helps :)

That looks great. Have you used it?

I tried to register but the on-line registration form doesn't accept my password (11 characters, and have tried someother combinations)! LOL

1267276 2012-03-29 20:35:00 Shipito have been *great* in my experience. I've shipped my Nexus One with them back in the day, as well as my Transformer Tablet, and several other things.

They have Airmail if you don't mind waiting 20-40 days for your package. Otherwise it could be USD$30-ish easily, depending on the size / weight? Trying to ship a T-Shirt was almost USD$25, more than the shirt itself :-/

1267277 2012-03-29 20:44:00 But I do not agree with the ridiculous, extreme high mark-ups of our dealers, Define dealers ?? Do you mean the shops selling to the public, or the wholesalers who import the goods ??

Heres an example, take this hard drive as advertised on Ascent - 500GB WD (www.ascent.co.nz) Lets say they pay the same price I would from the wholesaler - how much profit/ mark up as a dealer do you think there is from a NZ wholesaler, taking into account freight as well ????

1267278 2012-03-29 21:43:00 Take the fan that I intend to buy for example, eBay and Amazon are selling <US $10.00 or around; and the link you provided (NZ) sells for >NZ $60.00. Just a brief search found that if buying in bulk, at least 20 pcs, costs about US $2 ~$5. per pcs. from some China sites. eBay and Amazon are selling it at a very reasonable price but not our sellers in NZ!

Of course, not all items same as that. I have to agree with you that some items are very reasonably priced in NZ. :)
