Let's not get our hopes up too early.

That snopes article is wrong. Mitochondria is an organelle not a cell. That makes me think that it wasn't written by a credible source (I have a friend who is studying biology, wikipedia also says that it's an organelle). Also the link in post #1 is going to be biased, just look at the sites logo...
