| 1267505 | 2012-03-30 00:23:00 | Hey there peoples . Got a new job and we are in need of a stock system because the current spread sheet is massive and messy . Requirements are . . . We have 3 basic levels of manufacturing . . . 1 . Raw material 2 . Painted material 3 . Processed material We have approx 20 different raw products which come in either 2 . 4m and 3m lengths or 3m and 3 . 6m lengths depending on product . Each product can then be painted either black, grey or white . From there they are processed further with a final choice of 4 more options . So one raw product can turn into about 12 different finished products and say we ordered in 1000 of raw product they could turn into anything at different quantities . Does anyone know of a stock system that can deal with that? Preferably simple, we don't need any costs, accounting etc as that is all sorted . Just the stock . Price of software not an issue (within reason) Thanks |

Branch accountant for a feed a milling firm, I had the task of writing spreadsheets in Lotus Symphony, for manufaturing, sales, stock sheets, fixed assets, almost anything. Symphony was the "big brother" to Lotus 123. Sorry, I would not be much help with today's MS stuff. Lurking. |

I wrote one years ago on Paradox a dos database system and sold a few to some local manufacturers You could do it in Access. But why not look for a proper software product. There must be some in the world, it does not need to be NZ written. Try Google Bill of Materials. (Of course if your company had someone in house to do it on Acess you could modify it later.) I could throw a sample DB together to illustrate my own concept of it if you wish. I've done a DB for a well known pipe fitting co regarding their stock tracking, although your situation is a little different, as their DB is tracking WHERE it is, whereas yours is tracking quantities as the products flow through the workshop stages. |

A web based stock control would also be an advantage as stock is often needed to be checked from out of office and overseas etc which becomes a problem when we go home and then someone in the UK gets up and needs to know something off it . I have been looking at a few addons for Xero but they all seem a bit overkill for what we need . All of our costings etc is done through other software, perhaps we are using this wrong but I though t it'd be a lot easier to find a simple bit of software to do this . I have considered building on in filemaker but I don't have the time, or the knowledge to do so . Maybe hiring someone to do this is an option as well . |
