36923 2002-02-24 22:46:00 Hi,

I read the news article about DDR333 RAM. Now I am just wondering what is the speed advantage of a DDR333 RAM chip has over a SDRAM chip in actual numbers (like DDR333 has a thoroughput of 2.9G)? And do all motherboards, that support SDRAM chips support DDR333 RAM chips as well?

36924 2002-02-25 00:36:00 First - There is a noticeable advantage with DDR, but I cannot give exact figures.

Most (all?) motherboards that supprot DDR support SDR. If you have a mother board that has SDR in it, then chances are that is all it will take.

It is unlikely that the manufacturer would go to the extra expense of a DDR mobo, but put cheaper RAM in it. Check your mobo's user manual, but I would be doubtful.

36925 2002-02-25 00:49:00 whats called sdram and ddr are two seperate things that are not interchangable. there are a few motherboards that can fit both types. as far as upgradeing ddr266 to ddr333 is a little pointless (unless you are overclocking) because most motherboards only have a 266mhz bus ie they will run ddr333 at 266, much like puting 133sdram in a 100mhz fsb motherboard.

as far as ddr vers sdram goes, with ghz processors sdram becomes a performance sapping bottleneck.

36926 2002-02-25 04:58:00 sorry GP didn't see your post before.

VERY FEW motherboards support both DDR and SDRAM. there are not many chipsets that can do it untill recently. noteably sis and ali.
