36814 2002-02-23 23:25:00 During off-peak IHUG dial-up connections in TIMARU, my browser sometimes will idle half-way through downloading a web-site page. Use of PING and TRACERT confirms that my connection is unable to contact the IHUG host server. Sometimes disconnection and redialling will not restore the server communication.
Can a loss of server connection be caused by a server fault or server overloading?

36815 2002-02-24 04:24:00 First off all I'd complain to ihug about the problem. The trouble being is that they probably aren't that interested in upgrading equipment in smaller centers.

You could have the following problems:
- Bad modems on the ISP side
- The ISP bandwidth is overloaded (even at off-peak).

36816 2002-02-24 07:06:00 Thanks for that, Andrew.
Helpdesk response detailed possible causes at my end, in phone connection and PC useage, predictably. Nothing there that helped, and blame is always diverted to user or Telecom!
I may look at using a second pay as you go ISP as an alternative, but have not been able to confirm that others have same problem with IHUG here. I can work around it, and I am not paying for the dead time, but would like to confirm the cause. Thanks.
