| 37101 | 2002-02-26 03:01:00 | Hi people, now that ZFree is terminal (bad pun, sorry) some people need an alternative solution. My mother doesn't have a lot of spare money to throw around, just doesn't need flat rate access, but doesn't really want to pay $2.50 per hour. I wondered, Xtra Prepay 10 costs $10 per month, but it's $27.95 flat rate. IHUG are similar sort of thing. Both come with 5 email addresses. Is there anything stopping people from sharing accounts? Don't tell me they can't log in at the same time, I figure that might be an issue. But say retired people who check during the day could share with someone who thumps it in the evenings? Is this pathetic or possible? Happy to hear of any free services out there but I don't think there are any left. robo. |

Some ISP's expressely forbid the practice, however, so they'd need to check. this could work really well for people that are in touch with each other quite a bit, such as family members - thing of course is privacy of emails between them, because Xtra's email and login passwords are the same. |

Would definitely have to make sure that you weren't dialing in while someone else was already logged on. Ideally I spose one would share the connection with their retired grand/parents. For example, they're retired and at home during the day on the internet while you're at work. Generally speaking once someone gets to a certain age they start going to bed earlier so you get the whole night on the net. JM |

Only problem is your charged for it at like 2 cents a minute but only if multiple users are using the same account at the same time. It's a good idea if both people are not 24/7 people. Otherwise you'll be better off paying for 2 connections. I currently have mine shared with my grandparents who hardly use it. Sometimes I can expect to pay $2 more. This is with Xtra. I am not sure of the other rates for other ISPs. |

| 37109 | 2002-02-26 06:32:00 | The number you dial in from doesn't matter, usually. It's easy enough to change in your preferences, if it causes a problem on a particular call. It shouldn't. Multiple simultaneous connections on the same account used to slip under most radars (several computers working one account used to be a normal configuration in many homes). Clear blocks any after the first user. I thought Xtra did, too, but I know they used to let it go and then -- but only sometimes -- bill for the double hours. Ihug might still let it happen -- would be curious to hear of any ISPs which DO allow it to occur (not agree to it, just allow it). | Guest (0) | ||
